THE TUBE-MIRLITON
It is believed that the American Kazooz closest relative is the African tube-mirliton. The tube-mirliton was an extremely primitive instrument. The body or tube was made out of horns, skulls, bones, gourds etc. and the membranes may have consisted of animal or human skins and even the egg-shells of spiders. The African tube-mirliton was used to distort the voices of Shamans at tribe gatherings in order to intimidate and terrify the uninitiated.
