The Alabama Vest Tribute Kazoo!!!
When I got your email about Alabama Vest
I once again got to thinking about what his personal kazoo may have looked like.
I have my Alabama red cedar kazoo that was designed on the lines I thought he would have followed.
But as I got to thinking about it again last week I changed my mind about Alabama's kazoo.
First I think it would have been an all pine kazoo as pine was a readily available wood throughout the south
I think his kazoo would have had a modest amount of shaping to give it somewhat of a torpedo shape.
That would be the natural path a person would take carving a 4" long piece of 2"x2" square pine.
I think that his personal kazoo may have been the inspiration for the shape of the first metal kazoo
The difference with my Alabama Vest Tribute Kazoo and the Original Kazoo design
is that the mouth end of my kazoo is the smaller tail end of the submarine shape
and the vent hole is the larger nose end.
I think that Alabama Vest's personal kazoo would be shaped the same as my kazoo.
When shaping the kazoo my natural tendency is to form the mouth end to the correct diameter
and taper for it to be comfortable to play.
The vent end would have been ovaled somewhat with a bit of taper on the top behind the resonator cap
but not nearly as much as the rounded mouth end.
I could imagine Alabama Vest pulling this kazoo out of his pocket wrapped up in an old blue bandana.
on a Saturday night with a couple pickers and a harp player sitting around a fire pit
with a jug of shine and a tune or two.
So after careful deliberation and consideration the attached picture is my representation of
Alabama Vest's personal kazoo.

I want you to know what a fun experience you provided for me.
For some reason, this morning I had a great childhood memory of ordering the Woody Woodpecker kazoo after seeing the ad for it on my box of Rice Krispies.
The agony of waiting for the 4-6 week delivery time came back to me too.
And then the great memory of finally getting the kazoo and tooting my little heart out on that thing.
I could picture what the kazoo looked like exactly.
Well, by now I'm well acquainted with how the internet is bound to show me most anything I can think of.
I typed "Woody Woodpecker kazoo" in my Google search bar
- and instantly was taken to the page of your site where you have that fantastic photo of the kazoo
- as well as the box it came in, and the ad--
Oh my, each item in the picture was exactly as I'd just gotten through recalling it.
And the bonus was the glorious extra shots of Woody taken from different angles.
THANK YOU!--You made my morning.----wish I still had my Woody kazoo - I'd be playing it right now.

It's the day after Thanksgiving. One bird is gone, the kind Turkey that gave his all for our Thanksgiving Day feast.

jumped on the Kazoo band wagon when I posted my "Zarathustra",
he said he laughed so hard he almost wet himself.
Using some of the Kazoo samples, he posted this bit based on "Country Gardens," a well known piece by Percy Grainger.
This duo has been paired in every style of music from Jug to Jazz, Classic to Country and just about everything except Flamenco.
I felt it was time that the sacred egg be broken and that an omlet of Flamenco Git-Jo and Kazoo be prepared and served up to the masses.

Structure: There are two forms of flamenco songs: cante jondo and cante chico. Cante jondo are slower and usually feature sad lyrics about disappointed love or death, while cante chico are much quicker, more popular and dance-oriented.
The concept of duende is very important in flamenco. Loosely, defined, duende is a spiritual or emotional bond between the performer and audience, created by the performer's intense concentration and passion.

Unfortunately, kazoos are non-existent here in Brazil. I am starting a small collection, I'll send you the photos later.
